Sri Lanka Cricket Ropes in Aqib Javed as the New Bowling Coach: The International Cricketers Association (ICA) proudly announces that the former Pakistan Pace Bowler Aqib Javed has been named the new bowling coach of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team. Aqib Javed represented Pakistan in 163 ODIs and 22 Test Matches and picked up 236 wickets in International Cricket.
Post-retirement, Aqib Javed has been a successful cricket coach and administrator. Aqib’s major success as a coach was when he coached the U19 team of Pakistan to a U19 World Cup win back in 2004. He has worked as Head Coach and Director of Cricket Operations of Lahore Qalandars. He won the Pakistan Super League twice in 2 years (2022 & 2023) with Lahore Qalandars. He is to date the only coach to win back-to-back PSL editions. In 2023, he also won Zim Afro T10 as a head coach.
In other assignments, he has worked with the Afghanistan Cricket Team in a developmental program and has also served as the bowling coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team. During his tenure as coach, UAE Cricket Team obtained the ODI and T20I status. UAE also made it to the 2015 ODI World Cup and featured in the first round of the 2014 World T20 under Javed’s coaching.
Chairman of the ICA, Moghees Sheikh congratulated Aqib Javed on his successful appointment as the new Bowling Coach of Sri Lanka. “I want to congratulate Aqib Javed on his new role. He is a great cricket Administrator and Coach. His success with different international and franchise teams is a testament to how good of a coach he is. I wish him best of luck for his new assignment”, Moghees Sheikh stated.
