A stocky, compact batsman, Azhar Ali made his Test debut for Pakistan against Australia at Lord’s in 2010. His consistency since – he now has 45 Test caps – means he has thrived at this level.

His class shone through against England in 2011/12. In a series dominated by bowlers he was the only batsman on either side to average more than 50.
